The flag pole is a fiberglass whip which also acts as the center support for the K9AY low band receiving array. (replaced in 2003 with a full size 80m vertical)

While lightning never got closer than a couple miles, it was remonescent of my August 2000 effort when the station was struck less than 5 minutes after going QRT (no damage fortunately)

A look at the local radar during the contest. The station is located on the coast between Ft Pierce and Jupiter. We watch the weather channel during contests since they are such a common occurance.
